Make every solar quote answer the same four questions
Preheader: Four written questions turn three sales pitches into one straight comparison.
Three solar quotes, three different panels described as the best one available. One proposal leads with efficiency, another leads with a long warranty figure, and a third leads with wattage and a discount that expires on Friday. That is how the comparison often starts for Melbourne homeowners.
The specs in those documents are genuine. Each supplier has chosen which figures to emphasise, usually around the panel that business sells. The result is three proposals built around different measures, which leaves you trying to compare sales framing.
A quote becomes comparable when every supplier answers the same questions in writing. Send these four to all three suppliers and ask for their replies by the same date.
One: what is the modelled annual output in kWh for the exact panel positions on my roof, with shading included?
Two: what are the full panel and inverter model numbers you intend to install?
Three: what is the product warranty and what is the performance warranty, stated separately? Who handles a claim in Australia, and does the cover include labour, access and removal?
Four: what is excluded from the quoted price, including meter changes, switchboard upgrades, extra rails on a tile roof and any second visit?
The first answer gives you one annual output estimate to compare side by side. The second identifies the equipment the price covers. The third separates two warranties that are often reduced to one headline number and shows you who handles the claim. The fourth records the costs outside the quote.
Do this today. Copy the four questions into one email and send it to every supplier who has quoted you. Put the answers in a simple table with one column per quote. Compare annual output first, then the exact equipment, warranty cover and exclusions. Wait until all four rows are complete before choosing.
Written answers give you details you can check before anyone climbs onto your roof. A supplier who can explain the design clearly gives you a proposal you can assess on the same terms as the others.
